While this blog was created as part of a professional development course, it will be used to share ideas with other Teacher/Librarians.

I have really enjoyed this class. While my Hangout is tonight the other apps we have used show a lot promise for in school use. I am also very excited at the prospect of grades 3-5 getting Google account thorough the district. It opens up many more possibilities for creating different types of final projects.

Google Calendar
I chose to embed my calendar in my blog instead of creating a link. I found that it was fairly easy to use and I like the idea of sharing calendars for the ease of scheduling meetings without all the e-mail tag of finding a good time. Color coding assignments by grade level also makes it easy for other teachers, parents, and students to see what is coming in the near future. To see the calendar outside the blog click here.
Google Accounts for grades 3-5
I am very excited that MCPS will be creating Google accounts for grades 3-5. As an elementary librarian I like the fact that there will now be options for students besides Microsoft Office. While Office is a good product, there is the disadvantage that not all students have access to it at home. More students have internet access and therefore the ability to use Google Apps. at home.
I am also looking forward to getting a more in depth look at Google Apps. through this class.
